Abstract

In previous chapters we have examined a wide variety of issues surrounding political behavior at work. We have defined political behavior as behavior that is designed to help a person achieve their own internally driven agenda, rather than the goals of their role. We’ve seen how the richness of different value systems and the different styles people use at work add levels of complexity to workplace political dynamics. We’ve also examined, in some depth, how to go about working effectively with politically minded people in order to get things done, how to assess the political roles that you and your colleagues adopt on certain issues, how to judge the level of trust that exists in your working relationships and how to make the most of the personal power and organizational influence available to you in your role.
