Abstract

During the past decade, supervisors around the world have given significant attention to their systems of financial supervision, including capital requirements. Even prior to the recent financial crisis, regulators were rethinking the purpose of regulatory capital requirements and how they should be structured. The financial turmoil has increased regulatory cooperation in this area and increased the importance of international standards.
