Part-time Post-school Investments in Education and their Impact on Earnings Growth for Engineers

Abstract

Data from the National Science Foundation’s 1972 Professional,Technical and Scientific Manpower Survey (PTS) indicate that a substantial number of engineers return to school on a part-time basis after entering the labour market. The purpose of this paper is to determine the impact of these investments on earnings growth.Except for the recent study by Lazear (1976), research on post-school human-capital accumulation over the work-life has ignored post-school edu?cational investments.
