Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss some of the main proposals that have been made recently for possible solutions to the employment problem1 in the light of Mexico’s experiences in the last few years. The fact that Mexico has become a net exporter of oil and gas gives the country a special interest in the subject, since in principle it is to be expected that once the traditional obstacle of foreign pressure is removed, it will be feasible to raise the productive absorption of the labour force by the economy.
