Abstract

Economic analysis establishes relations connecting theoretical variables, corresponding to abstract concepts. These concepts constitute a simplified representation of the complex web of economic events and thus provide a systematic framework for economic analysis. However, after continued use economists tend to take these concepts for granted, as if they were not creations of the mind, but entities with an independent existence.
