Abstract

The session on international financing aimed at three main goals: (a) highlighting the basic facts and trends on a global scale, (b) analysing the major problem areas such as foreign direct investment and the relationships between trade and finance, and (c) formulating some general conclusions for international governments. Thanks to the three excellent papers by Dr Mayer, Professor Diaz-Alejandro and Professor Helleiner and thanks to stimulating contributions by specialists on the panel and from the floor, the session proved very fruitful. This makes it easy for me to give a very brief summary of the main results and then to let the authors speak for themselves.
