Abstract

Between 1 July and 31 December 1954 the National Immigration Office in France sponsored the arrival of 393,154 foreigners, comprising 306,139 workers and 87,013 dependants, under the Family Immigration Scheme. This figure does not include all the immigrants who entered the country during the period under review, as the monopoly of the National Immigration Office applies only to wage earners; but it certainly covers the part of the influx which had economic significance.
