Abstract

It may be true that there is always something new from Africa. But there is often much that is not new. Most African (or at any rate South African) problems tend to contain important common elements which may not be found elsewhere, but which are never absent from our country. Our King Charles’s head of colour (and all that is connected, actually or in imagination, with colour differences) is the constant feature which has to be borne in mind when discussing the role of immigration in the South African economy.
