Abstract

Secular economic movement is more intimately related to all the economic, social or other influences that shape history than is any other type of economic movement. It would, for instance, be difficult to segregate any one important influence that did not affect the historical shape of the secular growth born of the industrial revolution: the changing structure of our societies, the development of their institutions, the ideas which inspired the actions of their governing groups, the vicissitudes of economic fluctuations all leave their mark on historical development.
