Abstract

The market structure of the Italian economy has undergone a profound change during the last quarter of a century. Up to the time of the First World War the industrial and commercial organization in this country, although not free from the tendency towards the big enterprise in certain branches and from restrictive practices, was fundamentally characterized by a great number of units of moderate size, and consequently by a relative high degree of competition.
