Abstract

This chapter takes a close look at the changes in income distribution in Latin America during the 1990s. We have three specific objectives. First, we document the changes in the region. Second, we explore if the changes we observe are an ‘illusion’ created by differences in the characteristics of the data or by the way in which the data are treated for measuring inequality; and third, we verify what is behind the changes that have taken place.
