The LSE and the Treasury

Abstract

At the end of August 1936, Robertson was, almost literally, in limbo between two contrasting facets of his life: that represented by what he had temporarily left behind in Cambridge, England, and that represented by his destination, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was on board the Cunard-White Star liner ‘Georgic’ in New York harbour and obviously feeling the need to unburden himself on matters that weighed upon him. A letter he wrote to Keynes from his ark of refuge indicates very clearly what these cares were.
