Abstract

UBI will destroy democracy by making many reliant on the government and hence on the dictates of those in power with control over the payments. Promises to pay can be used to buy votes. Conversely, the wealthiest people, net UBI contributors, may upend democratic processes to prevent more of their income or wealth from being redistributed to the masses.
