Abstract

Este documento evalúa empíricamente las estrategias de competencia implementadas por las empresas exportadoras peruanas de productos textiles en respuesta a las estrategias de las empresas chinas. Utilizando el marco conceptual de Castellares (2015), se encuentra que las empresas exportadoras peruanas modificaron la calidad de sus productos para competir con los productos chinos de bajo precio y calidad, siendo estas respuestas heterogéneas. Es decir, las firmas más productivas mejoraron la calidad de sus productos para diferenciarse de las prendas chinas, mientras que las firmas menos productivas, que no son capaces de mejorar su calidad, optaron por reducir precios durante los años 2001-2007.
