Abstract

The goal of the current research is to explore the attitudes and educational needs of Greek young farmers towards entrepreneurship in the agri-food processing sector. After 2008 and the breakout of the last economic crisis, the Greek GDP has shrunk by almost a quarter and unemployment rate currently exceeds 25% of the work force. It is believed that an efficient direction for escaping these macroeconomic problems is to focus on promising sectors of the economy. This research focuses on the Greek agrifood processing sector, which is believed to have growth potential both in terms of value added and employment. The data were gathered by 4 in depth focus group interviews with Greek youths that are related with the primary sector, and the results give a fairly clear view of their attitudes and entrepreneurship educational needs.
