Abstract

Entrepreneurial coaching and mentoring dyads are purposeful interpersonal relationships. Securing and improving the start-up and early phase development processes require matching communicational strategies with business support objectives and situations. We did five-year field research in a business incubator and a mentoring institute in the Paris area. We identified the interpersonal communicational strategies that coaches and mentors use in order to influence the entrepreneurs’ attitudes and behaviours. These strategies are categorized as persuasion, engagement, criticism, and provocation. We then assessed the impact of these communicational strategies at the individual (commitment, compliance, resistance) and enterprise levels (business launching, fundraising, business profitability).
