Use Your Potential – Entrepreneurship Award in Bregalnica – Strumica Region in the Republic of Macedonia

Abstract

German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) project for Regional Economic Development of the Eastern Part of Macedonia (REDEM) supported the implementation of a publicity campaign entitled “Entrepreneur of the month” as a pilot activity which was aimed at promoting entrepreneurship through publicising success-stories of business start-ups and SMEs from the local community and thereby encouraging an entrepreneurial spirit and attitude in the region. The campaign was implemented in different municipalities of the Bregalnica-Strumica region (two NUTS III regions) each month during the year 2007. The mayor of each municipality that hosted the festive event presented an “Entrepreneur of the month” award to the selected entrepreneur and promoted both the event and the entrepreneur in the local and regional media. Alongside, media campaign was organised with objective to encourage not only the newly established businesses but also young people to start to think in that direction and to consider self-employment as an option for their future, instead of waiting to be employed by somebody else.
