'Islamische Wirtschaftsordnung' - Ein Entwicklungshemmnis?
In: List Forum Band 30
The attempt of so-called 'Islamic economists' to develop a strictly Islamic, high-performance economic order cannot be successful. And if the supporters of such an idea could assert themselves in the shaping of the economic order Islam would probably be an obstacle to development. Particularly the forbidding of interest and some misleading interpretations of statements about property-rights in Islam hinder the construction of a workable economic order grounding on Islamic religion. On the other hand the Islam as such cannot - in contradiction to the opinion of Weber - be seen as a decisive reason for the under achievement of Islamic Societies. Serious problems could only rise in the case of fundamental transfer of religion to the economic process. The under-development in Islamic countries is mainly caused by factors that are independent of Islam. (Original text only available in german language)
