Abstract

This chapter reviews Islamic philanthropy in Jordan. Starting by explaining how Islamic philanthropy has been associated with the history of Jordan which had received and still hosts multiple migrations from the surrounding conflict areas. After that, the sections of the chapter provide an analysis of Islamic philanthropy in Jordan. The analysis covers the demographics of the country, the civil society sector, the relationship between civil society and the royal, ruling system of Jordan, the relationship between philanthropic work and Islam which is a primary reference for most Jordanians, an Islamic philanthropy work-map, The forms and trends of philanthropic giving that Jordanians practice, and finally, examples of pioneer Islamic philanthropic organizations serving in Jordan.
