Abstract

This chapter summarises the views of the editors of leading tourism journals. Each editor was invited to write a short piece about their journal, Surprisingly, there is significant similarity in the issues addressed by editors. There has been a maturing of the journal publishing sector, with concentration into a handful of large publishers. This brings with it a range of issues identified by the editors. Firstly, journals no longer confine themselves to empirical papers, book reviews and conference reports, but offer a range of other formats such as “letters”. Secondly, the maturing of the journal landscape has brought a rise in the number of journals, away from the early generalist journals to a later splintering of journals into sub-sections of tourism. Finally, the editors identify a range of editorial challenges including paper quality, language, finding reviewers, metrics and ethical issues.
