Abstract

This chapter examines the current state of the art of tourism journals. It begins by examining the growth of new titles and the disappearance of some other titles. It then examines the family tree of journals, showing the evolution of and linkages between titles since the first tourism journal appeared in the 1940s. The chapter then documents the historical quest for legitimacy of tourism as a field of study before concluding with some personal observations about the future of our journals.
