Abstract

Publishing in the best refereed tourism journals is the key to academic success in the twenty-first century. These publications are the currency of academic life yet the process of what makes a good paper and how to get it accepted for publication is shrouded in mystique, distrust and bafflement. This book aims to demystify this process by providing practical and well-founded advice to tourism scholars based on the experience of seasoned editors, reviewers and commentators. Running through the chapters and pieces by editors is a simple golden thread - success in refereed journal publishing is about quality writing, contribution to knowledge, perfection in style and positioning the paper in the most appropriate journal. The book is divided into four parts - an introductory set of chapters on the tourism journal publishing landscape, a part on the paper itself, one on issues surrounding getting published and a final one on academic careers.
