Governance of financial sector policies in an era of climate change

Abstract

The climate change crisis demands policy innovations from supervisory and monetary authorities, starting with a requirement that they and other financial market participants track and manage the growing risks. The maintenance of good governance practices may be challenging but is essential for the acceptance of these measures. The financial sector authorities can do much within their existing mandates, but need to be wary of expanding beyond their traditional remit.
