Abstract

This chapter analyses the initiative 'Tu respuesta sindical YA' an online trade union section created to meet the demands of workers engaged on digital platforms developed by the Spanish majority trade union, Unión General de Trabajadores. Designed as an adaptation of traditional trade union action to the new realities of work on digital platforms, it diversifies methods of support, mobilization, advocacy and involvement of workers. Its aims concentrate on different areas: gathering information about workers engaged through digital platforms and the reality of their work, offering them legal advice and, ultimately, carrying out actions designed to organize and mobilize them, combining digital tools with more traditional street work. Furthermore, these communication channels have served to mobilize and ultimately begin a process of formally organizing collective representation. Although this process is still in early stages, it represents a great milestone for both the union and the workers.
