Abstract

It has been well-documented that there is a lack of representation of women in leadership positions in sport. While the low representation of women in leadership positions has been largely examined, the experience of women with disabilities in sport leadership positions remains a significant gap in the literature. In this chapter, we explore the extant literature on the intersectionality of gender and disability in sport leadership. We highlight the key learnings from this literature and present three case examples of programs that have focused on addressing this gap including: (a) The International Paralympic Committee Women in Sport Leadership Tool Kit, (b) the WoMentoring Programme, and (c) The Agitos Women in Sport Leadership Initiative. We offer critical discussion based on the literature and findings from the cases presented. Finally, we highlight future directions for research and key considerations for stakeholders conducing work in this space going forward.
