Abstract

The objective of the chapter is to outline the recent developments in the measurement of poverty with an ordered-categorical variable. We first introduce the axiomatic framework where we present various properties that a poverty measure should satisfy. Then we briefly discuss the poverty measures that have been proposed in the literature. Finally, we present some applications and discuss some debatable issues and potential extensions.
