Application of innovation measurement to policy: views from Africa

Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of African countries’ efforts to measure innovation activity and apply innovation data for policy. The chapter illustrates how existing innovation indicators were developed in Africa since the launch of the ASTII initiative in 2007 and how they are used to inform policy. It also investigates the initiatives undertaken to promote innovation policies and build capacity within the various actors in Africa. This chapter ends with recommendations for policymakers
