Abstract

Practice, policy, and research related to entrepreneurship and sport for development and peace (SDP) continues to grow. As most SDP actors operate with resource-constraints and must navigate complex institutional environments, entrepreneurship may present unique ways for organisations, staff, and communities involved in the sector to succeed and ensure sustainability of SDP programs. In this chapter, we (1) provide a brief overview of entrepreneurship and discuss its influence on the SDP sector, particularly in regard to entrepreneurial orientation (EO); and (2) highlight the possibilities of and challenges that entrepreneurship may face in SDP. More specifically, we discuss how nonprofit organisations may exhibit entrepreneurship in ways that contrast with the entrepreneurial behaviour of actors in the private sector, and highlight the application of EO in SDP by both individuals and organisations. We conclude by discussing the ways in which EO may benefit the SDP field and suggest areas for future research.
