Energy infrastructure integration has been a long standing theme across Europe based upon bilateral and multi-lateral co-operation and co-ordination. These themes have also been evident within the TEN-E programme which has proactively sought to stimulate electricity and gas system integration. However this process has had a mixed success. Nonetheless state continue to co-operate to integrate energy systems with many states building and extending international gas and electricity systems to further cement state energy security.
