Abstract

This chapter explores recent advances in the economics literature that studies gangs and criminal organizations (Cos). The chapter focuses on the COs internal organization, their relationships with other COs, their connections to and strategies toward the state, and consequently their economic impact on people's lives and social welfare in general.
