Abstract

Gallup created the Migrant Acceptance Index using three questions that it first asked of adults in 140 countries in 2016 and 2017 via its World Poll. The questions measure people’s acceptance of migrants by increasing degrees of proximity, asking whether people think immigrants living in their country, becoming their neighbor and marrying into their families are good things or bad things. In this paper, the researchers will delve into the background of the development of the index and discuss some of the more pivotal findings from the initial study, including the relationship that emerged between migrant acceptance and migrants’ emotional health and overall wellbeing.
