Abstract

This chapter discusses the reform and opening up since 1978 and its great impact on the transformation of the governance pattern in Chinese history using the following logic: experiments in governance pattern and the general features of China’s governance pattern before the reform and opening up; transformation of the governance pattern since the reform and opening up; relations between governance and economic growth; an econometric test of the relationship between the governance pattern before and after the reform and economic development.
