Cien años de inflación en Colombia: evolución y control

Abstract

El texto analiza la evolución de la inflación en Colombia desde 1923 hasta 2022. Identificándose en cinco periodos clave: 1. 1923-1928: Dominio del patrón oro y alta inflación. 2. 1929-1935: Caída en el nivel general de precios y abandono del patrón oro. 3. 1936-1972: Inflación moderada y cambios institucionales. 4. 1973-1999: Alta inflación y manejo monetario expansivo. 5. 2000-2022: Caída en la inflación y estabilidad. Adicional el autor examina las circunstancias macroeconómicas y los cambios institucionales que influyeron en la evolución de la inflación en cada período. También se presentan los resultados de un ejercicio econométrico que muestra la relación entre la inflación y el exceso de medios de pago en la economía. El trabajo se basa en una amplia variedad de fuentes, incluyendo libros y artículos de expertos en economía y finanzas. El autor agradece la colaboración de varios expertos y la apoyo de la CAF-Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina para la realización del trabajo.
