Abstract

EEl capítulo describe la evolución del Banco de la República, el banco central de Colombia, durante sus 100 años de existencia. Se identifican siete fases clave en la política monetaria y la organización del banco: 1. Dominio del patrón oro (1923) 2. Abandono del patrón oro y establecimiento de la tasa de cambio fija (1933-1950) 3. Introducción del crédito de fomento 4. Creación de la Junta Monetaria y política monetaria estatal 5. Independencia del Banco Central (1991) 6. Proceso de toma de decisiones y comunicación de política monetaria 7. La banca central del futuro Cada cambio implicó una reestructuración del banco y la transformación de sus responsabilidades. A pesar de los cambios, el banco mantuvo su carácter técnico y su reputación como una institución confiable del Estado.
