Abstract

En esta parte se estudia la gestión que hace el Banco de la República en los depósitos de oro en el exterior. Los puntos clave son: 1. El Banco debe mantener depósitos en oro en cantidad suficiente para atender demandas de giros y cambiar billetes por oro. 2. La mayor parte de los depósitos deben estar en Nueva York, debido a su importancia como centro financiero y porque los giros provenientes del comercio de café se originan allí. 3. No es necesario que los depósitos se mantengan exclusivamente en establecimientos de la misma nacionalidad. 4. Lo importante es la ubicación de los fondos y no la nacionalidad del depositario. 5. Se sugiere que los depósitos en el exterior se mantengan en bancos miembros del sistema de Reservas Federales para garantizar su seguridad. 6. No se considera conveniente restringir los depósitos en bancos extranjeros con sucursales en Colombia, ya que el redescuento es un elemento de seguridad para los bancos accionistas.
