Abstract

En este capítulo se presenta un resumen de los principales análisis que se desplegaron en 2020 como parte del proyecto imae en la difícil coyuntura asociada a la pandemia. En esencia, el indicador mensual de actividad económica, creado por Vidal, Sierra, Sanabria y Collazos (2015, 2017), ha permitido actualizar periódicamente desde 2015 las dinámicas del ciclo económico regional y entender sus principales determinantes de corto plazo. En la coyuntura de 2020, el proyecto se amplió para analizar nuevas variables y mecanismos de transmisión, y construir escenarios. Una especial atención se le dio a la demanda de energía diaria con el fin de contar con señales tempranas sobre el tamaño del choque inicial por la cuarentena y la posterior velocidad de recuperación en el Valle del Cauca y sus municipios. El capítulo tiene la siguiente estructura: en la sección 1 se explica la metodología y las variables utilizadas para la estimación del imae Valle y el análisis del impacto del Covid-19 en la economía del Valle; en la 2 se exponen los resultados; y, por último, se ofrecen las conclusiones.
