Abstract

A inicios de la segunda década y nuevo siglo, en el Banco de la Republica surgieron algunos eventos importantes como la oficialización del esquema de inflación objetivo, se consolido el régimen de libre flotación cambiaria y se diseñó esquema de intervención en el mercado de divisas. En el año 2004 se aprobó el acto legislativo que modifico la carta política de 1991, por lo que el presidente pudo aspirar a un segundo mandato en las próximas elecciones; surgió una polémica e incómoda propuesta del entonces Presidente Álvaro Uribe Vélez al mencionar la necesidad de revisar la cartilla del Banco de la Republica a lo cual ni sus asesores más cercanos se esperaban esto, pero finalmente dicho acto legislativo no prospero. Habla también de la entrega de 500 millones del banco de la republica al presidente para pago de deuda externa.
