Abstract

El libro analiza la transformación histórica de la mujer en Colombia desde principios del siglo XX hasta la actualidad, identificando cuatro etapas: El rezago de la mujer (1905-1935). Baja educación y participación laboral. Los cimientos para el empoderamiento de la mujer (1936-1965). Inicio de la matrícula universitaria femenina. Comienzos del empoderamiento de la mujer (1966-1985). Descenso en las tasas de fecundidad y aumento en la participación laboral. Avanzando aún mucho por hacer (1985-actualidad). Aumento en la educación universitaria y participación laboral. Se destacan logros como el aumento en la educación femenina y reducción de la fecundidad, el incremento en la participación laboral femenina y la reducción de brechas salariales por género. Sin embargo, persistían desafíos como la brecha salarial del 19%, una carga desproporcionada de tareas domésticas y de cuidado y los obstáculos para la participación política. Mientras tanto se proponen políticas públicas para abordar estos desafíos, como: Redistribuir el trabajo del cuidado en el hogar y proporcionar infraestructura de atención pública y privada. Reconocer, reducir y redistribuir el trabajo no remunerado. Promover un cambio cultural en los partidos políticos y empoderar a las mujeres para la participación política.
