Abstract

En el capítulo estudiamos qué es dinero, ahorro y crédito, y cuáles son algunas de las medidas del dinero –el stock nominal de dinero, los saldos reales y la demanda de dinero . Vemos que el dinero es medio de transacción, depósito de valor y unidad de cuenta. Hacemos una distinción entre el dinero como un activo líquido y el ahorro como un activo menos líquido, y otra distinción entre el dinero como un pasivo del sector financiero y el crédito como un activo del mismo. Por último, consideramos que los saldos reales son la capacidad de compra del dinero en términos de bienes y que la demanda de dinero, k, es la capacidad de compra del dinero medida como porcentaje del PIB.
