Abstract

Este capítulo consta de dos secciones. En la primera, se examina el significado que tuvieron los años veinte en la historia económica del país y, en especial, la enorme expansión que se dio en la infraestructura: vías de comunicación (ferrocarriles y carreteras). En la segunda sección, se analiza el contexto histórico del país cuando Kemmerer llegó para reformar el sector financiero y fiscal. Además, se presentan las causas de la creación del Banco de la República en 1923, a la luz de las teorías sobre banca central.
