PROJECTBACKUP: Stata module to zip up a project folder, subfolders included, in native Stata

Abstract

projectbackup archives a folder and everything under it into a single .zip using only Stata's own zipfile command and Mata -- no tar, 7-Zip, or PowerShell, so it behaves identically on macOS, Windows, and Linux and works where you cannot run external programs. It is built for the everyday "snapshot my project" habit: point it at a folder and it writes a (optionally dated) zip into an _archive subfolder, and can keep a running Markdown log of every backup. Before writing it walks the tree and warns about oversized folders, too many files, and paths too deep for Windows to extract -- with a dryrun that measures without writing. Options: archive(), prefix(), timestamp, label(), exclude(), nodotfiles, toc, note(), manifest, keep(), removeall, dryrun, force, and a zippy option that also writes a Stata Journal .zippy copy. projectbackup [folder] [, timestamp toc exclude() keep() dryrun ...]
