Die Ökonomisierung der Pietät: Der Wandel des Bestattungsmarkts in Deutschland

Abstract

Das wirtschaftliche Handeln auf dem Bestattungsmarkt war lange Zeit stark durch soziale Normen geprägt, die eine Ökonomisierung verhinderten. Seit einigen Jahren lässt sich jedoch in diesem Bereich eine stärkere Ausrichtung des Handelns an Effizienz- und Rentabilitätskriterien beobachten. Wie konnte sich die Bestattungsbranche von einem hoch regulierten Wirtschaftszweig zu einem dynamischen und internationalen Markt entwickeln? Dominic Akyel beschreibt diese Veränderung als einen Prozess der Säkularisierung und Enttraditionalisierung gesellschaftlichen Handelns. Er zeigt, dass komplexe Ökonomisierungsdynamiken eng mit dem Wandel moralischer Vorstellungen verknüpft sind.
