Abstract

Naturgefahren sind eine bedeutende Ursache für die Bedrohung von Leben, Lebensqualität und Wohlbefinden. Zudem können sie die Regionalwirtschaft und die Volkswirtschaft maßgeblich negativ beeinflussen. Über die wirtschaftlichen Folgen von Naturgefahren und den Nutzen von Vorsorgemaßnahmen liegen in Österreich gute Befunde im Hinblick auf Lawinen, Wildbachereignisse und Hochwasser vor. In diesem Forschungsprojekt liegt der Fokus auf der Abwehr von Naturgefahren durch Wälder mit direkter Objektschutzfunktion. Vorliegende Evidenz deutet darauf hin, dass die Schutzwirkung der Wälder nicht überall den angestrebten Zustand erreicht hat. In den geschützten Zonen hat die wirtschaftliche Dynamik teils stark zugenommen. Die wirtschaftlichen Implikationen davon sind derzeit noch nicht bekannt. Ziel ist, Maßnahmen zu identifizieren, durch welche die Schutzwirkung der Wälder auch in Zukunft gewährleistet werden kann.
