Abstract

The 81st Euroconstruct conference held in Dublin on 10 June 2016 clearly pointed out the recovery path of the construction markets in the 19 participating European countries. Construction output will be mainly supported by civil engineering, all above in the Eastern European countries where an annual average growth of about 8.6 percent is expected in the forecasting period 2016-2018 (19 Euroconstruct countries: +2.8 percent). Also housing construction is likely to show a solid performance, with an average growth rate of 2.6 percent in the 19 Euroconstruct countries in the upcoming years to 2018, with best outlook for Ireland, Hungary and Portugal. Non-residential construction lags somewhat behind (+2.3 percent) since full utilisation is not reached and business confidence is improving but still did not reach the previous levels. Uncertainties regarding overall world trade, mainly because of the economic troubles within the BRICS countries and China are still hindering investment in non-residential construction.
