Abstract

Eine wichtige Aufgabe der steirischen Wirtschaftspolitik besteht darin, den Wirtschaftsstandort Steiermark in seiner Qualität nicht nur abzusichern, sondern kontinuierlich weiter auszubauen, um den Herausforderung der Zukunft mit sinkenden Transportkosten, Freizügigkeit im Waren-, Kapital- und Personenverkehr sowie dem Aufstieg "neuer" Standorte in Schwellenländern gerecht zu werden. Die vorliegende Studie leistet dazu einen empirisch gestützten Beitrag. International vergleichbare Informationen über die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit des Standortes Steiermark und ähnlich entwickelter und strukturierter Regionen in Europa werden aufbereitet und vergleichend analysiert. Auf dieser Basis können Stärken und Schwächen des Standortes im europäischen Konkurrenzumfeld identifiziert werden und in weiterer Folge Hinweise für wesentliche Handlungsfelder und Maßnahmen der regionalen Wirtschaftspolitik abgeleitet werden.
