71st Euroconstruct Conference: Europe Passed the Construction Low – Growth is Hampered by the International Debt Crisis. Country Report

Abstract

Construction in Europe has declined for the fourth year in a row in 2011. The downturn is about to end this year, but there is a large variance by country and region. In 2011, growth was highest in Poland and also the Nordic countries achieved strong growth. Also in France and Germany total construction output increased well above average. On the other hand, in Spain, Ireland and Portugal, construction is still clearly declining. UK and smaller CEECs are also facing a decline. In Austria, construction is stagnating in 2011. The Euroconstruct Country Report provides a detailed analysis of the construction market development until 2013 in the 19 Euroconstruct member countries. The forecasts are based on a comparable harmonised dataset for the major construction sectors and also include the macroeconomic framework.
