Abstract

Die meisten ostmitteleuropäischen Beitrittskandidatenländer sind wirtschaftlich schwach und zugleich viel stärker agrarisch geprägt als Westeuropa. Der dem Beitritt folgende Anstieg der Erzeugerpreise, die Investitionsimpulse aus der Intensivierung der Förderung und den Direktzahlungen der EU lösen Produktionsanreize aus, die die Agrarmärkte belasten und die Diskussion um neue Reformen der GAP stimulieren könnten. Die Nachbarschaft zu Ost-Mitteleuropa legt es nahe, dass die österreichische Landwirtschaft von der Erweiterung besonders berührt sein wird. Die Folgen der Integration sind in gewissen Grenzen gestaltbar. Ein gutes Ergebnis der Beitrittsverhandlungen und die Förderung der Wettbewerbskraft und Anpassungsfähigkeit der Agrar- und Ernährungswirtschaft stärken die Position der heimischen Bauern.
