Abstract

This case study analyzes the economic viability of the broiler enterprise, comparing the risks involved in opting for contractual arrangements versus choosing to be independent growers. It extends the comparative analysis to discuss the need for a shift from traditional production-oriented system to a more demand-drive market-led production system, where farmer-producers could deliver the quantity and quality of products that will satisfy the changing demands of domestic and world markets at the right time, place, and form. This case study illustrates how market-oriented agriculture contributes to food security and resource sustainability.
