Abstract

This book was written to fill a need for texts relevant to Philippines and other Southeast Asian agriculture, which can serve as useful references for beginning courses in crop science and related subjects. It puts together pertinent information on new technological developments and concepts that can ultimately elevate crop production to a more efficient state. Philippine data were used in this book for purposes of assessing current production situations and in firming up certain production principles that have wide applications to similar agro-climatic and economic settings in the Southeast Asian region. Likewise, global trends in crop production, especially in more advanced countries, are presented to create an awareness on how things are done elsewhere vis-a vis the in-country traditional system of production. It is envisioned that this book will serve a useful purpose not only to students, but also to agricultural practitioners, agribusiness people, extension specialists and policymakers.
