Abstract

The third Umali Award recognizes the accomplishments of Dr. Ramon Barba, whose ability to perceive practical solutions to bear on complex problems, innovativeness, diligence, and persistence have helped develop several technologies that have had unprecendented impact on both the small farmers and the agro-processing sector of the mango industry in the Philippines and other countries as well. Similarly, his work on tissue culture benefited the agriculture sector by increasing propagation rate of other important crops. Like Dr. Dioscoro Umali, his commitment to empower small farmers in the Philippines and other parts of the worls serves as an inspiration to many.
